Merkel Calls for EU Fiscal Commissar, as European Empire Consolidates
A striking feature of the current destruction of national economies through the euro system is the role played by Berlin. Whereas the "construction of Europe" implies the victimization of all sovereign nations, including Germany, the role assigned to Angela Merkel in imposing deadly austerity and political control upon EU member states makes it appear as if Berlin is resuming dreams of European dominance. In fact, all the actors in the euro drama have been profiled, and Merkel is reacting as expected. But those who blame the "bad" Germans offer no solution, just their own version of "more Europe". The authors of the script are the same supranational oligarchical elites, which engineered the two previous world wars pitting European nations against one other.
Consider Merkel's comments shortly before the EU summit of heads of state/government in Brussels on Oct. 18, where she proposed that the EU economics commissioner should have the authority to veto the national budgets of EU member states. Merkel did acknowledge that some of them were not ready for such a step. However, she added, if they were, and if a national budget had to be declared invalid, "we would be at the stage of needing someone in the (EU) Commission who has the authority to do that", suggesting that that person would be the EU economics commissioner. This, of course, implies the transfer of a huge amount of national sovereignty to Brussels.
However, neither Merkel nor her Finance Minister Wolfgang Schäuble are the inventors of the idea. Right after the signing of the Lisbon Treaty in Dec. 2007, then-IMF director Dominique Strauss-Kahn demanded that the treaty be upgraded by the creation of an EU Finance Minister. Former EU Commission president Jacques Delors and many others have made similar proposals.
As Helga Zepp-LaRouche wrote on Oct. 20. "Never since 1945, has there been such a deep rift in Europe between the perception of a policy which the population in the so-called peripheral states and increasingly in the so-called core nations feels is a threat to their very existence, and the self-assuredness with which Frau Merkel keeps calling for 'more Europe' in spite of the consequences of this policy. 'We should not disappoint the markets' is another of her favorite themes. Evidently, in her head, 'Europe' and 'Markets' have long since become synonyms."
In an interview with Daniel Estulin's program "Desde la sombra" on the Spanish language Russia Today television, Zepp-LaRouche called on the viewers not to "mix up Germany with Mrs. Merkel. Because fortunately these are two different things."
A growing section of public opinion – especially older generations – shares Zepp LaRouche's view. This is shown in an article by Ludwig Poullain, the former head of WestLB and of the German Saving Banks Association, published Oct. 5 in the magazine Cicero. Poullain calls for an end to the bailout policies and to the euro system altogether, and draws a parallel to politics in the 1930s. He recalls how his generation welcomed the lifting of the Nazi period censorships, but he recently came to the understanding that even elected governments in democratic states tend to prescribe the direction of thinking to their subjects. He denounces Mrs. Merkel and her Finance Minister for bowing down to the dictate of the markets in order to save the "homunculus" euro, which lies like a shroud over Spain, Italy and France. Followed by her "terracotta soldiers", Merkel will not stop until Germany is crushed too, Poullain wrote.
