Merkel and Hollande Meeting in Ludwigsburg:
Zepp-LaRouche and Cheminade Revive the de Gaulle-Adenauer Heritage

On Sept. 22, François Hollande and Angela Merkel will attend a celebration in Ludwigsburg, Germany, where Charles de Gaulle delivered his famous speech to German youth 50 years ago. He began by saying to them – in German: “I congratulate you! I congratulate you first because you are young... I congratulate you next, for being young Germans, that is, the children of a grand people. Yes, a great people.”

(It was a magnificent speech, decisively rejecting the “collective guilt” syndrome, and consolidated a turning point in relations between the two nations.)

For the celebration this year, Helga-Zepp LaRouche and Jacques Cheminade put out a special statement, which will be distributed as a leaflet in a bilingual version. The text follows:

"Long Live the Franco-German Friendship": Our Commitment to Turn Words into Reality

By Helga-Zepp Larouche and Jacques Cheminade

“Vive l’amitié franco-allemande”, Long live the Franco-German friendship, Chancellor Angela Merkel said in a speech delivered on July 8, 2012 in Reims, commemorating the famous meeting between de Gaulle and Adenauer 50 years before. On this September 22, François Hollande and Angela Merkel will attend the commemoration in Ludwigsburg in honour of the 50th anniversary of Charles de Gaulle’s speech to the German youth.

We celebrate the accomplishments of those giants from the past and the reconciliation of our peoples. But let us be honest. Those words cannot become reality in the current European Union, which has made the very word Europe repulsive, because of the way our common policies are presently treated.

A true friendship is when we share the good we do for the cause of mankind. Our mission is thus to create the conditions for a common Renaissance, to work together to the advantage of the other, in the spirit of the 1648 Peace of Westphalia. We, as German and French leaders, are all the more committed to fight for this mission today when world peace is threatened, and our continent lives under the threat of financial, economic and social disintegration

To that end, we take the opportunity of the opening of the festivities of the Franco-German year in Ludwigsburg, and of the joint Hollande-Merkel meeting in Berlin next January 22, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Elysee Treaty.

Let us find in the accomplishments of the past inspiration for the future. De Gaulle and Adenauer said that “united, we can meet all challenges, for the benefit of our two peoples and of Europe”. But they also added that “our spirit must be revitalized by every generation”.

It is high time that we act as they acted. We are committed to changing the way of thinking of our fellow citizens and leaders, to inspire them to work for the needs of future generations and not for the management of system, which has already died. Therefore, we call for an overhaul of relations between our two countries, based on five main points:

  • Launch a policy of great projects on a European, Eurasian and worldwide level, building a real land-bridge of economic development between Eastern Europe, the Mediterranean and Africa, as well as a space exploration policy. This is the policy to create the basis for mankind's future, the platform for new discoveries and applied technologies which enable us to increase the potential relative population density, which is the alternative to the brutish depopulation policy imposed by the British Empire;

  • Generate the public credit needed for these projects, from within a European alliance of national banks, rather than a bankers’ central bank such as the European Central Bank of Mario Draghi; Make this policy possible through a global Glass Steagall as a starting point, which completely separates commercial banks from speculative investment banks, and prevent a relaunch of the casino system which infects Europe and hinders the launching of great projects and issuance of public credit;

  • Put an end to the euro system, which has proven to be self-destructive and only beneficial to the financial speculators of the City of London, Wall Street and their continental European associates. Without a global Glass Steagall and an exit from the euro system, a world economic recovery is impossible, and we would then be condemned to depopulation and a new world war, which could transgress the thermonuclear threshold, or both.

  • Launch a new cultural Renaissance, to revive all the best that Europe has produced to inspire the world, not as a matter of false pride but as something precious to be shared. The European scholarships have been named Erasmus, Leonardo and Comenius, and the European anthem is the chorus of the Ninth Symphony. All this has become, in today's Europe, a sad joke. We are committed to return to those precious works of the past, as to fountain heads from which new works of beauty for the future will flow.

We have to throw this stone into the stagnant pond that the European Union has become in order to change it. We believe in the beautiful human values at the root of European culture, a contents which the Elysee Treaty and the Franco-German Treaty lacked. In the midst of the tempest now shaking the world, such are the values that will inspire the great joint projects of mankind.

We have to say that loudly and clearly today, because the silence in Europe and the lack of any positive perspective is becoming the silence of the lambs.
