Obama Announces Unlimited Warfare, Targets China

President Obama appeared in person in the Pentagon briefing room on Jan. 5, to announce his new "military strategy", which represents the outcome of the strategic review carried out over the past several months. Now that the war in Iraq is over, that the war in Afghanistan is winding down, and Osama bin Laden is dead, Obama indicated, "our military will be leaner, but the world must know the United States is going to maintain our military superiority."

The new guidance, which provides the "strategy" that's supposed to guide decisions on where to cut the budget, makes clear that the real targets are Russia and China, with Iran, and perhaps some other countries, to be hit along the way. The simultaneous presence in Washington of British Defense Secretary Philip Hammond, underscores that fact. The British Strategic and Defense Review of 2010 and London's meddling in the affairs of both Russia and China have become the model for what the Obama Administration plans to do to the U.S. and to the world at large.

While focusing on China and Iran explicitly, the new guidance states that no other rivals to US military power are to be allowed anywhere in the world (reminiscent of Dick Cheney's 1992 document). It further indicates that the theater for U.S. military operations has been extended to the entire world, since the U.S. "will continue to take an active approach to countering" terrorist threats "by monitoring the activities of non-state threats worldwide, working with allies and partners to establish control over ungoverned territories and directly striking the most dangerous groups and individuals when necessary."

Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said, in his remarks, that the Army and the Marine Corps "will no longer need to be sized to support the large-scale, long-term stability operations that dominated military priorities and force generation over the past decade." Instead, there will be greater reliance on naval and air forces, to include heavy emphasis on drones and the development of a new stealth bomber, which itself will be "optionally manned."

In other words, reliance on the discredited concepts of the so-called Revolution in Military Affairs, as most recently employed in Libya, which means using on high technology to do the job.

Panetta further said that the “U.S. military will increase its institutional weight and focus on enhanced presence, power projection, and deterrence in Asia-Pacific.... But make no mistake – we will have the capability to confront and defeat more than one adversary at a time.”

The new, leaner force, the Defense Secretary went on, will be "agile, flexible, ready to deploy, innovative and technologically advanced." In other words, what Obama and his British masters think is needed to prop up the failed trans-Atlantic system, and to target other countries or groups of countries which are striving for economic growth. There is no attempt to carry out any peace-making policy.

Appropriately, the Chinese state press agency, Xinhua, cautioned Washington against militarism in the area and "acting like a bull in a china shop."
